For many, the mere feeling of stepping outside their comfort zones is too much to bear. The fear of failure is greater in them compared to their desire for success.

Maybe you are one of those constantly engulfed by fear. Sincerely speaking, this is a great offence. Real success comes when you learn to get comfortable with being uncomfortable. Master the skill of getting comfortable with being uncomfortable and you have won half of the battle of life. Here are 5 steps of facing your fears in order to realize tremendous success.

  1. Just Do it

It is true that we are all scared at one point in our lives. Life is a fight or flight endeavor. Majority of people choose to run away and stay in their safe comfort zones. The ultra-successful instead choose to keep moving forward despite the presence of the feeling of fear.Indeed, most of historic moments have been recorded by men, women and children whose hearts were pounding, palms sweating and adrenaline pumping but they chose to do it anyway.

It is better to fail at something big than seldom try. The next time you want to do something- and fear creeps, just remind yourself that most of great people faced the same but they made a decision to do it anyway.

2. Classify Your Fear

Identifying the type of fear killing you is the first step towards fighting and conquering it. Often times, we are faced by the fear of the future, the fear of rejection and the fear of the unknown. All these three types of fears can be broadly classified into rational or irrational fears.

If you are afraid of leaving your job and instead investing your savings into living on a desert island-having no future income, surrounded by panthers and pit vipers and…of course, no survival skills; then you can classify that under rational fears. On the other hand, if you are only scared of balloons, you can categorize that fear under irrational fears. It is easy to deal with irrational fears compared to rational fears. Nevertheless, facing all these types of fears is guided by great desire in the beauty of conquering them.

After categorizing your fears as either rational or irrational, get your list of irrational fears and mark them off one by one till the whole list is complete. Secondly, think through your rational fears and the ones that make sense to do go right ahead and do them. Get ticking to gain your momentum and soon, you will have faced all your fears.

Sometimes facing your fears will not be of any help if you do not weigh up the options available to you. It is wise to only face fears that are most definitely going to yield excellent results to your life.

The only way to face your fears is to believe in the supremacy of God and your inadequacy as man. This is the basic fundamental of life. Without believing this, you are merely existing-not living. Having faith in God plucks off fear from our hearts and mind- promising us that our future is already insured for by God. This gives us the confidence to face life fearlessly because even if we fail, the powerful God will restore us.

5. Visualize Yourself Conquering

Nick Minaj and Rihanna put their melodious vocals to good use by singing; “I was born to win, to fly, to conquer , to rise and to survive.” One great way to overcome fear is through visualizing yourself conquering it. Picture yourself succeeding before even getting down to do it. This is a secret held close to the hearts of many successful people. The next time you are overcome with fear, take five minutes with your eyes closed and imagine yourself completing the task at hand. After the five minutes, open your eyes and just start doing it. This is the only way to face your fears-Taking action with the picture of success permanently embedded at the back of your mind.

What inspires you to do what you do? What is your purpose? Knowing the reason why God created you is a vital step towards creating an enjoyable life. -What is your passion? Knowing your passion is a huge step towards staying motivated for long. This motivation not only inspires you but also other people’s lives, bringing satisfaction and fulfillment to your life.

-What are your strengths? What is that innate ability that helps you to adapt to any challenging situation without giving up your hope?

-How do you measure your life? How do you bring value to life? Do you use your success for your own selfish desires or do you make use of your resources to reach out and help others? How do you want to be remembered to the future generation?

2. Keep a Positive Attitude

Our beliefs determine our perception of reality, how we think of ourselves and the world around us. To stay motivated through thin and thick, you need to constantly work on developing yourself. Self improvement will help you to attain self confidence in your abilities and help to build on what you did not know.

When something negative happens, the simplest way to acknowledge the situation is by convincing your mind that everything happens for a reason. Believe in your abilities and be brave to see life lessons during adversity. This will give you a third eye to see solutions within problems hence stimulating a positive and motivating effect from within. Motivate yourself with positive statements for instance ,” I can do this today,” “i will reach the destination no matter what,” “I am getting better and better daily.” This will definitely culminate into a habit and keep you motivated always.

A vision enables you to see what does not exist. It gives you the ability to see beyond your present reality. Having a vision will definitely motivate you to get up every day and try just one more time. Your vision will engage your subconscious mind to be prepared to take up available opportunities that will help to propel you towards achieving your goals. This is the secret to success and long lasting motivation.

4. Plan

It is a nude fact that as humans we cannot foresee everything. We cannot plan for every possible turn of events, but we can be well prepared to handle the majority of them. It is therefore vital to remain flexible and work to adapt to unexpected situations. If your plan does not work, do not change the goal but just adjust your plan depending on the lessons gathered from your failure. Break your plan into small attainable chunks to keep you motivated on handling the next chunk on your list.

It is important to understand that no one else can do it but you. Make it your responsibility to live excellence and inspire others by working daily on your goals. You must keep believing that God has a good plan and that something good is gonna happen. Learn from your mistakes daily and make an effort to learn from every encounter in life- whether good or bad. All these people cast their hopes for us. It becomes difficult to clearly tell the difference between others dreams for us and our own dreams. Their dreams become ours.

To see our dreams come true, they must come from within. They must be authentically from you and no one else. If by any chance we are able to achieve others’ dreams, there is still an emptiness within because it is not our true dream but a counterfeit. Others have decided and even predicted a future for us. This is genuinely a waste of years of our life.

When you are chasing somebody else’s dream disguised as your own, you do not have time to do self-searching to discover your own dream. It becomes a detour from the life you truly desire. Often times, we have a small feeling from within that it’s not our true dream but we keep pushing on in the same direction. We have been mislead and don’t fully understand for how long.

If you believe that you may have been chasing the wrong dream, follow the four steps below to discover your true dream.

  1. Be Alone

You must create time to be alone with yourself. Turn all external voices except the one that is internal. In this busy, noisy and counterproductive society, we must be focused and objective to make this happen.Technology is an inevitable and constant destruction. The noise makes it hard for you to clearly visualize your talents, abilities and passion. A lone time will eliminate all destruction and help you to re-evaluate and refocus your mind on your core values.

We will definitely get discouraged along the journey of life. To keep us going, we need to refill our hope by constantly reminding ourselves why we started the journey. We are only reminded by looking back to our written dreams. Writing is a compass to bring us back to where we ran out of motivation.

Feedback is a vital step to any progress in life. However,be careful to get feedback from a trusted source. Furthermore, avoid looking out for feedback early in the process of chasing your dreams. Often times,we are over-excited about our dreams and openly share them with any random Tom, Dick and Harry. The result is being discouraged before we strongly anchor the roots of our dreams. Get feedback from people who have been where you want to go. Find out what it took them to accomplish their dreams. This will adequately prepare your for the inevitable challenges along the journey.
